Finally! We’ve just published what is probably my favorite ever of our computational models, now available here.
It is called the “Future of Religious and Secular Transitions” (FOReST) model.
FOReST explores the conditions under which – and the mechanisms by which – cultures emerge in which the majority of the population does not believe in supernatural agents (ghosts, gods, goblins, etc.). It also discloses the conditions under which this process is reversed.
Spoiler alert… it has to do with the extent to which members of the population are educated, feel existentially secure, value pluralism, and have freedom of expression.
